Construction of Abdul Samad Rabiu Classroom Blocks for University of Uyo Begins

With a groundbreaking ceremony held on the campus today, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has officially started the construction of four classroom blocks for the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State. This initiative is part of a larger grant awarded to the university through the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grants Scheme. The funding for this project is sourced from ASR Africa’s US$100 million Fund for Social Development and Renewal.

Expressing his gratitude, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nyaudoh U. Ndaeyo, thanked ASR Africa for selecting the University of Uyo as a recipient of the Tertiary Education Grant Scheme. He highlighted the significance of the classroom blocks project for the university and urged for its swift completion to facilitate its immediate use. Prof. Ndaeyo also acknowledged the support and interventions of ASR Africa’s Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, in various tertiary institutions across the country.

In his remarks, Dr. Ubon Udoh, the MD CEO of ASR Africa, commended the University of Uyo’s management for their cooperation in the project. He reaffirmed Abdul Samad Rabiu’s dedication to enhancing the quality of education in Nigerian and African tertiary institutions. Dr. Udoh encouraged students to fully utilize the new facility once it is finished.

ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grants have already benefitted over 27 public and private universities and higher education institutions in Nigeria. Some of the institutions that have received support include the University of Maiduguri, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ilorin, University of Benin, University of Ibadan, Adamawa State University, University of Jos, and Federal University of Technology, Minna, among others.
