Accusations of Governor Fubara Plotting to Demolish Rivers Assembly Quarters by Amaewhule-led Legislators

In a recent development, the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, has sounded the alarm regarding an alleged scheme by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to demolish the Assembly quarters situated on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

During a press briefing that ensued right after the governor’s visit to the quarters on Thursday, Speaker Martin Amaewhule leveled the accusation against Fubara, alleging a violation of an existing court order.

Leading the journalists on a tour of the premises, Speaker Amaewhule expressed visible anger as he emphasized the robust construction of the building, deeming it unnecessary for any renovation.

Amaewhule further pointed out that the governor’s visit was unsolicited as none of them had extended an invitation to him, rendering his presence unnecessary.

Dismissing declarations made by certain lawmakers loyal to Fubara about the election of a new Speaker the previous day, the House issued a statement reaffirming the constancy of its leadership structure. It maintained that Martin Amaewhule, Dumle Maol, and Major Jack continue in their roles as Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Majority Leader respectively.
