Cleric Held in Custody for Alleged Rape Case

Remanded by the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, a 45-year-old cleric named Mr. Sunday Adewoye is facing allegations of raping a 22-year-old woman.

The accused, who did not disclose his address, has been charged with unlawful sexual penetration and rape.

Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya, the Chief Magistrate, opted not to hear Adewoye’s plea and sought guidance from the state director of public prosecutions.

Ademokaiya ordered that the defendant be detained in a custodial facility until he receives the advice sought.

The case has been adjourned until June 3 for further proceedings.

During the court session, the prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, detailed that on April 17 at 5:00 pm, Adewoye allegedly committed the crimes on Joseph Dosu Way in Badagry.

It was alleged that Adewoye engaged in sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old woman without her consent, a violation of Sections 260 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
