Chief Imam of Ghana Urges Muslims to Pray at Home and Suspends Public Islamic Gatherings

Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shrabutu, the Chief Imam of Ghana, has taken the decision to suspend public Islamic religious activities and gatherings as a preventive measure against the spread of coronavirus in the country.

According to Ghana Web, the Chief Imam, in a statement, emphasized that the suspension aligns with President Akufo-Addo’s ban on all social gatherings, including funerals, festivals, and religious activities. The decision extends to conferences and other events that involve large assemblies of people.

The Chief Imam also highlighted that the restriction of public gatherings is consistent with protocols outlined in the Quran to preserve and ensure healthy lives.

Consequently, all Muslims in Ghana will now be performing their daily prayers at their respective homes for the time being.

It’s worth noting that Ghana currently has six confirmed cases of coronavirus.
