Chiamaka Nnadozie sets her sights on Olympic success with the Falcons

Keen to secure a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Super Falcons’ goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie is gearing up for Nigeria’s crucial final qualifiers match against familiar rivals, South Africa, as reported by NewsNow.

Having cultivated a fierce rivalry over the years, both teams are regarded as powerhouses in Africa. However, South Africa has had the upper hand in recent encounters, triumphing in their last two meetings during the 2022 Women’s Afcon in Morocco and the 2021 Aisha Buhari Cup on Nigerian soil.

For Nnadozie, the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games holds significant importance.

Reflecting on past disappointments, Nnadozie expressed her determination, stating, “I want to experience the Olympics firsthand.”

Having resided in Paris for four years and representing Paris FC, Nnadozie has developed a strong affection for the city. The prospect of participating in the Olympic Games in her adopted home resonates deeply with her.

France holds sentimental value for Nnadozie as it was where she made her international debut on June 17, 2019, against France in Rennes. Despite conceding a late penalty in that match, she showcased her potential as a formidable goalkeeper and subsequently earned a reputation for her penalty-saving prowess.

Recognized for her outstanding performances, Nnadozie was twice nominated for the best goalkeeper award in the French championship. Her coach at Paris FC, Sandrine Soubeyrand, hailed her as one of the finest goalkeepers of her generation.

Following her accolades, including being named the Best Women’s Goalkeeper in Africa at the 2023 CAF Awards and leading Nigeria to the round of 16 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, Nnadozie is eager to guide her team to Olympic qualification.

To achieve this goal, Nigeria must overcome reigning African champions South Africa in a two-legged clash on April 5 and 9.

Nigeria’s last Olympic appearance was in 2008, with Toby Oluechi guarding the net for the Super Falcons.

Drawing inspiration from Oluechi’s experiences, Nnadozie emphasized the importance of qualifying for the prestigious tournament, highlighting the tournament’s significance and expressing her eagerness to secure their spot.
