Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, former Arsenal star Paul Merson has recommended two new signings for Chelsea.
Despite showing signs of improvement, Chelsea remains distant from top teams like Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool in the Premier League standings.
Currently sitting in seventh place, the Blues are trailing leaders Arsenal by a significant 29-point margin, highlighting the challenge they face in securing a Champions League spot.
While there have been positive performances in cup competitions under Mauricio Pochettino, there is still work to be done to close the gap with the league’s frontrunners.
Merson stresses that Chelsea must bolster their squad in key areas to compete effectively with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
He believes that reinforcements are necessary in the upcoming transfer window, with two positions identified as crucial for the team’s progress.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson commented, “Chelsea’s recent form is commendable as they are in contention for European qualification. However, they are significantly behind the standards set by Manchester City and Arsenal. A holistic view is essential.”
He added, “The summer transfer window presents an opportunity for Chelsea to add experience to their squad. With Thiago Silva likely to depart, the need for an experienced central defender is evident. Additionally, recruiting another proven striker should be a priority for them.”
