Rio Ferdinand Reacts to PSG Loss: Dortmund Successfully Contained Mbappe

Rio Ferdinand, a former England defender, commended Borussia Dortmund for effectively containing Kylian Mbappe in their 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final second leg.

Mbappe was unable to find the net in both legs as Dortmund sealed a 2-0 aggregate win.

As the French forward prepares to depart the Ligue 1 champions, his final European game for PSG has now concluded.

Reflecting on Mbappe’s performance, Ferdinand remarked during his appearance on TNT Sports, “This is a departure from the norm for Kylian Mbappe. We are used to seeing him shine on the grandest stages.”

“Throughout his career, he has consistently risen to the occasion, but across the two legs, he appeared significantly subdued,” Ferdinand added.

He also noted, “Dortmund deserves immense credit. They effectively neutralized Mbappe’s one-on-one opportunities.”

“Top-tier players typically excel when provided with space. Mbappe had a chance towards the end, a volley opportunity that demanded precision,” Ferdinand continued.

“However, Dortmund’s yellow-clad team deserves the lion’s share of recognition. Manager Edin Terzic warrants significant praise for their tactical display,” Ferdinand concluded.
