Call to Action for African Leaders to Embrace Pan-African Consciousness

Urging African leaders to adopt a Pan-African consciousness, The Pan African Dialogue Institute (TPADI), a Civil Society Think Tank, emphasizes the importance of fostering patriotism and eradicating corruption within the continent.

Dr Effiong Joseph Udo, the president of TPADI, delivered this message during a press conference in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. He highlighted the need for African leaders to prioritize Pan Africanism, expressing disappointment in the lackluster approach towards it.

It is concerning that many African nations, including Nigeria, overlook the significance of International Africa Day. TPADI plans to push for the recognition of May 25 as Pan Africa Day in Nigeria through a bill at the National Assembly.

According to Udo, leaders with a Pan-African mindset would not engage in embezzlement and illicitly move funds abroad for investment purposes. TPADI aims to launch an executive education program on pan-Africanism, specifically targeting politicians to cultivate a sense of patriotism and promote ethical behavior.

The institute encourages stakeholders and policymakers to address African challenges with homegrown solutions, discouraging the prevalent reliance on foreign aid. The shift towards self-reliance and national pride is a core tenet of Pan-Africanism.

Udo articulates the desire to dispel the notion of African incompetence and dependency on external support, emphasizing the importance of leveraging internal strengths and unity. He advocates for a Pan Africanist approach across all professions, rooted in principles such as respect for human dignity, environmental consciousness, and the celebration of diversity encapsulated in the Ubuntu philosophy.
