Call for Justice for Slain NYSC Member in LAUTECH Shooting

A petition has been presented before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition by Ayodeji Alao-Akala, APC-Oyo, a member of the House of Representatives, seeking justice for the alleged police killing of Iyanda Damilola, a serving NYSC member.

In Abuja on Thursday, the lawmaker laid out the petition, which was written by Iyanda Israel, the deceased’s brother.

During a convocation ceremony at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Damilola was reportedly murdered.

In the petition dated 26th April 2024, Israel maintained that neither he, his late brother, nor their invited guests were involved in any cult activities as suggested by the police.

As narrated by the lawmaker, the petitioner had organized the convocation ceremony at LAUTECH and had invited his brother, who was a serving NYSC member in Ibadan, along with other friends to celebrate with him.

“During the event, a confrontation occurred which caught the attention of the police, and in their efforts to restore order, shots were fired, one of which resulted in the tragic death of Damilola,” he explained.

The petitioner was also struck by a stray bullet in his left arm and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The lawmaker urged the House to take prompt action to ensure that the officers responsible for the alleged killing of the deceased are held accountable under the full extent of the law, as reported by NAN.
