Call for Continuous Military Action against Terrorists by a Group Addressed to NSA

The Coalition for Peace and National Unity has urged the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other security agencies to maintain the current military operations against terrorists and insurgents that are causing turmoil in the nation.

The group praised the proactive steps taken to eliminate terrorist leaders and rescue abducted students, emphasizing that these actions deserve recognition.

In a statement signed by Dr. Abdullahi Musa Ringim, the Secretary General, it was mentioned that continuing these measures could help address security concerns and bring stability to the country in the long run.

Highlighting the recent successful operations, the group stated, “We commend the swift rescue of the 15 Tsangaya students taken from a Qur’anic school in Sokoto State, the students of the Federal University Gusau saved from invading terrorists, and the 137 Kuriga pupils rescued after being abducted over three weeks ago in Kaduna.”

Although acknowledging progress, the group emphasized the need for further action, particularly in the North.

Calling for increased proactivity in combating various criminal activities nationwide, especially banditry and insurgency, the statement added, “At this point, based on our analysis and research findings, we commend the Federal Government for its efforts in addressing the ongoing security challenges during the first 10 months of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”

The statement elaborated, “Bandit groups are widespread in the North-West region and Niger State, primarily motivated by economic factors. Besides ransom kidnappings, they exploit the absence of government presence to extort taxes and fees for protection from rural communities.

“In states such as Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina, these malicious bandit activities must be swiftly curbed, as evident from the group’s research conducted across the 19 northern states.”

“The nation has faced significant security challenges, including Boko Haram attacks, militancy, armed robbery, banditry, ransom kidnappings, herder-farmer clashes, and cultism, among other societal issues. The Federal Government’s demonstrated commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens is commendable, and our support is crucial for its success.

“The recent successful rescue operations and the diligent efforts made to secure the release of abducted school students and other hostages promptly are compelling reasons for us to fully back these initiatives.”
