Yobe State Governor Calls on World Bank Group for Flood Mitigation Solutions

In addressing the anticipated flood during this rainy season, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has urged the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) program by the World Bank to collaborate with the government in providing solutions.

During a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank and ACReSAL on Tuesday, Governor Buni emphasized the importance of constructing drainages to divert floodwaters away from towns and communities as a key measure to prevent the impending flood.

Describing the situation as an urgent matter of public importance, Buni stressed the need for immediate action to mitigate the looming flood threat.

He also highlighted the necessity of ensuring the resilience of resettled communities and safeguarding reconstructed houses from flood risks as part of the state government’s resettlement program.

Assuring the state government of support, ACReSAL Team Leader Ms. Joy Iyanga Agene praised the Yobe State government for fostering an enabling environment that has facilitated project implementation in the state.
