Keir Starmer appeared this Monday at the doors of Downing Street to announce his resignation as leader of the Labor Party and British Prime Minister after months of criticism and controversies that have put an end to his time after winning the elections in July 2024.
Starmet has acknowledged that he has lost the confidence of his parliamentary group to continue governing and has promised to do everything possible to ensure an orderly transition.

“I have heard the response of my parliamentary group to that question and I accept it willingly. All the decisions I have made have had the country I love as a priority. Therefore, I will resign as leader of the Labor Party,” said Starmer, who ended his appearance – which was very brief – in tears.
As is usual in these cases, to avoid a power vacuum, Starmer will remain in office until the election of the new leader, and assured that he will give “all his support” to his successor.
The presentation of candidatures will begin on July 9
Starmer has assured that this morning he has communicated his decision to Charles III and has explained that he will ask the National Executive Committee of the Labor Party to establish a calendar in which the presentation of candidacies begins on July 9 and concludes before the summer recess.
The prime minister has not managed to fulfill his promise of change with which he began his mandate on July 4, 2024. His arrival at Downing Street after 14 years of conservative governments was welcomed with great hope, but his mandate, characterized by lukewarmness when it came to taking a position on controversial issues or the impossibility of restoring relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU), damaged after Brexit, did not convince either the electorate or his fellow students.
