Bello is appointed by Tinubu as new CCB Chairman

Dr. Abdullahi Bello has been appointed as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau by President Bola Tinubu.

Senate confirmation is required for his appointment.

Bello takes over from Prof Isah Mohammed, who was appointed in November 2018 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The announcement of his appointment was made by the Presidency on Thursday in a statement signed by Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. The statement was titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new Chairman of Code of Conduct Bureau.’

Bello is described by Ngelale as having “over 25 years of professional experience in consulting, banking, law enforcement, financial services, and academia.”

The establishment of the CCB dates back to 1979 when the Constitution outlined Codes of Conduct for public officers.

It was not until 1989, during the Babangida regime, that the CCB received its legal mandate.

The Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, Chapter 58 LFN 1990, mandates the Bureau to, among other things, receive asset declarations by public officers, examine the declarations, retain custody of such declarations, and make them available for inspection by any Nigerian citizen under conditions prescribed by the National Assembly.
