Bauchi State Government Offers 50% Subsidy on Hajj Fare Increase

Amidst the recent rise in Hajj fares to Saudi Arabia, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved a significant 50% subsidy amounting to N950,000 for the 2024 pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This move aims to ease the financial strain on pilgrims from the state.

The National Hajj Commission had increased the fare for the 2024 pilgrimage by N1,918,032.91, prompting concerns. In response, the state government announced it will provide a subsidy of N959,000 for each of the 1,652 intending pilgrims from Bauchi State, totaling N2.5 billion.

Special Adviser to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, revealed this information in a statement on Friday. The statement highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens in fulfilling their religious obligations.

The governor’s decision to subsidize the Hajj fare aligns with efforts to enhance the welfare of citizens and facilitate religious practices. This subsidy covers half of the additional fare imposed by the National Hajj Commission, reflecting the state’s dedication to inclusive governance.

For the payment of the subsidy fare, the governor has approved the immediate release of two billion one hundred and ninety-six thousand, one hundred and ten naira (N2,196,110). This demonstrates the government’s prioritization of ensuring that Muslim faithful from Bauchi State have the opportunity to participate in the sacred Hajj pilgrimage.

Overall, the subsidy initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on intending pilgrims, allowing more individuals to engage in this sacred religious duty. By promoting equal access to opportunities and resources, the government underscores its commitment to inclusive governance and religious freedom.
