Tragic Incident in Defence Minister Mattawale’s Hometown Leaves 2 Dead

The peaceful town of Maradun in Zamfara state, hometown of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, was recently besieged by bandits.

In the early hours of Friday, the bandits launched a brutal attack resulting in the loss of two lives and the kidnapping of approximately 30 individuals.

Reports indicate that the bandits initiated the assault around 2:00 am, unleashing gunfire and pillaging the residents’ homes for a span of two hours.

While the exact count of the abducted victims remains unknown, it is estimated to be around 30, encompassing women, children, and men based on the number of affected households.

A local chief, whose residence was targeted by the bandits, expressed deep concerns regarding the escalating insecurity within the town.

Recalling the harrowing experience, he mentioned, “I heard the bandits forcibly entered my living room and proceeded towards my inner chambers. I managed to hide, whereas my family members took a separate route to seek refuge elsewhere.”

The unnamed traditional ruler emphasized the urgency for enhanced security measures in the area, highlighting a previous attack that occurred just the week before.

He urged the Minister of State for Defence, formerly the governor of Zamfara State, to intervene promptly to avert future assaults on his hometown.
