Atiku Calls for Opposition Unity to Oust Tinubu in 2027 After Faye’s Victory

Highlighting the victory of Bassirou Diomaye Faye in Senegal, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections, emphasized the importance of opposition unity in Nigeria to remove President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Atiku commended Faye’s win as the President-Elect of Senegal, citing it as a testament to the power of democracy as a governance system.

Sharing his thoughts on X, Atiku expressed, “The election of Bassirou Diomaye Faye as Senegal’s President-elect on March 24, 2024, comes at a critical time in the West African subregion. It showcases hope for constitutional democracy in the region amidst recent military interventions.”

“The Senegal experience holds valuable lessons for us in Nigeria and beyond. It reaffirms the significance of democracy, which thrives on the supremacy of the ballot as the most effective form of governance. It also demonstrates that electoral processes can be conducted in a manner that instills confidence in all stakeholders and voters based on the law and established guidelines,” Atiku added.

“Our observations from the 2019 and 2023 elections in Nigeria clearly indicate that INEC fell short of these expectations.”

“In Senegal, the reactions from key players and the populace serve as an endorsement of the election process that led to the victory of President-elect Bassirou Diomaye.”

“The recent election in Senegal echoes the trend seen in Nigeria’s 2015 elections, where the opposition could secure victory even under the ruling party’s administration,” Atiku noted.

“I have consistently advocated for opposition parties to form a strong coalition capable of challenging the ruling party if we are to have any hope of rescuing Nigeria,” Atiku emphasized.

“Congratulations to President-elect Faye. I trust that your tenure will not only benefit the people of Senegal but also inspire the entire West African subregion,” Atiku concluded.
