The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State have apprehended a 19-year-old individual named Jamiu Akande for reportedly raping a 9-year-old girl in the Pakata area of Ilorin.

According to the spokesperson of NSCDC in the state, Ayoola Michael, the Director of the Child Unit at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaja Mariam Yusuf, reported the incident to their office in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Michael stated that the ministry decided to escalate the matter to NSCDC after receiving a distress call from Babareke House in the Ipata Oloje area of Ilorin.

Efforts by officers of the Command led to the swift apprehension of the suspect, as mentioned by Michael, who explained that prior investigations uncovered the suspect’s frequent visits to the victim’s residence under the pretense of visiting a friend.

He manipulated the victim into accompanying him to an unfinished building on December 1, 2023, where the assault took place. Additionally, on April 16th, 2024, he coerced her into purchasing bread for him, leading her to a deteriorating structure where he subjected her to further abuse.

It was revealed that the victim disclosed the ongoing assaults by the suspect since December 2023,” Michael noted.

The NSCDC’s representative disclosed that the suspect admitted to the crime and will face prosecution in a court of law.
