Appeal for Cash Prizes by Winners of Obudu Mountain Race 10 Years Later

Ten years after the last Obudu International Mountain race in November 2014, the winners are appealing to Governor Bassey Otu for the cash prizes promised by former Governor Liyel Imoke.

Speaking in Calabar, Sylvester Ikpi, the spokesperson for the winners, emphasized that government responsibilities are passed down through administrations, necessitating the settlement of outstanding obligations.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Cross River State, Abubakar Ewa, recently announced the upcoming resumption of the annual Obudu Mountain race under Otu’s administration.

While Ewa mentioned that prize winners may not be compensated due to lack of documented records, Ikpi, who clinched the $2000 1st prize in the Media Race category, rebuked this stance as unfavorable.

Expressing optimism in Otu’s people-oriented governance, Ikpi urged the government to honor the prize money commitment made by the previous administration, citing their patience and hope over the past decade.
