Another tanker explosion in Nigeria results in fatalities and widespread destruction of houses

Reports indicate that at least eight individuals have lost their lives in a fire incident involving an oil tanker in Ometan community, located in Okpe local government area of Delta State.

The tragic event took place on Friday, as the oil tanker from Effurun lost control while attempting to overtake another truck near the boundary bridge connecting Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Area.

Witnesses recounted that the front section of the oil tanker unexpectedly separated from the rear compartment while in motion, triggering an explosion.

All structures within the accident site in the community were completely engulfed in flames.

Several individuals who were trapped in the buildings also succumbed to the fire.

Upon visiting the scene, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed his condolences to the Ometan community and bereaved families.

During his address at the location, the governor, accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, and the former chairman of Okpe local government area, expressed his sorrow for the tragic incident.

“Upon my arrival, I witnessed the unfortunate incident and observed the casualties and eyewitnesses,” said the governor. “It is indeed a distressing situation, and my thoughts are with the people of Ometan community and the families affected by this tragedy.”

Notably, this incident occurred just four days after a gas tanker explosion in Rivers State claimed numerous lives and caused extensive property damage.
