The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mr Mukhtar Ishaq, the Commissioner of Special Duties in Kano State, on allegations of fraud.
Ishaq, who previously served as the chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government, was apprehended on Thursday, February 20. He faces accusations of misappropriating funds designated for the local government and overseeing the unauthorized deduction of N30,000 from each council member’s account.
The EFCC disclosed that the investigation was spurred by a petition alleging that during Ishaq’s chairmanship, he illicitly diverted N76,000,000 earmarked for community projects and empowerment initiatives.
