Amid party crisis, PDP Representatives convene

At the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, members of the House of Representatives caucus belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party are currently gathered for a meeting.

Prior to a media parley scheduled for today, 60 lawmakers aligned with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, are in discussions.

The previous week saw 60 opposition lawmakers, led by a representative from Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, call for the resignation of PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum over allegations of incompetence and anti-party actions.

Shortly after the media briefing by Ugochinyere’s group, the House minority caucus, under the leadership of Kingsley Chinda, distanced itself from the faction, referring to it as an unfamiliar entity within the parliament.

While specific details of the ongoing meeting remain vague, it is likely related to the upcoming National Executive Committee gathering of the party set for Thursday at the PDP headquarters. The agenda will include discussions on issues such as alleged anti-party conduct by notable members and the status of Damagum.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a lawmaker present at the meeting informed PUNCH Online that they will be addressing national concerns during the session.

He mentioned that a public announcement regarding the meeting’s outcomes will be made later today.

“The primary purpose of this caucus meeting is to assess the country’s security situation,” he revealed.

Both Chinda and Ugochinyere are in attendance at the meeting.
