Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, has cautioned his predecessors against interfering in the affairs of his administration.
Speaking to reporters upon his return from the USA in Makurdi on Friday, Governor Alia made it clear that he would not tolerate any attempts to disrupt or undermine his government.
He emphasized, “I will not permit anyone, whether they are former governors or civil servants. If you have served as a governor and have nothing constructive to offer Benue State, then remain silent. Your tenure has ended, so let the current administration carry out its duties.”
Alia stressed the importance of providing constructive criticism and verifying facts before making statements, particularly for those individuals still residing in the state.
Reflecting on his recent participation in discussions at the USA Peace Institute alongside nine Northern Nigerian Governors on tackling regional security challenges, Alia highlighted the focus on repatriating displaced persons as a key priority.
During his trip abroad, Alia aimed to improve the state’s reputation, positioning Benue as a model for other states to learn from and emulate.
He noted the progress in restoring peace in areas such as Gwer West, Gwer East, Guma, and Makurdi, enabling farmers to return to their fields.
Alia urged the community to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to enhance security, reminding them that everyone plays a role in maintaining peace and order.
He concluded with a call to resist any attempts to compromise their integrity or sell their land, urging individuals to support security efforts and not succumb to pressures that could endanger their community.
