Strong criticism from Peter Obi on Lagos government’s handling of Osun youths’ deportation

Expressing his discontent, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, has denounced the alleged deportation of Osun natives from Lagos State.

Amid reports over the weekend, it was alleged that the Lagos government enforced the removal of Osun residents from the state, with police officers reportedly apprehending them in areas like Ajah, TBS, and Lagos Island.

Voicing his concerns on social media, Obi criticized the deportation, labeling it a violation of the citizens’ rights.

“The recent reports of Osun citizens’ deportation by Lagos authorities deeply sadden and shock me. This is not just about Osun but about all Nigerians who value unity, fairness, and justice,” Obi expressed.

He continued, “I strongly oppose any discrimination, injustice, or citizen rights violation. Every Nigerian, regardless of origin or location, should be treated with dignity and fairness.”

Emphasizing national unity and justice, Obi urged Nigerians to resist discrimination and injustice, highlighting that every citizen has the constitutional right to reside and work anywhere in the country.

Encouraging vigilance pending the investigation’s outcome, Obi assured that Osun security agencies were overseeing the situation to ensure the welfare of the deported individuals.

“Let’s work towards a Nigeria where all citizens are respected, irrespective of their background. A better Nigeria is achievable through unity,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a prompt probe into the alleged deportation of Osun residents from Lagos.

The Governor engaged with Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos Governor, who shared his shock over the incident and pledged quick interventions, urging residents to remain calm during the security agencies’ surveillance.
