Addressing Insecurity: NSA Ribadu Calls for Engagement with Nigerians to Foster Trust


In a recent meeting with spokespersons from defense, security, and response agencies in Abuja, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu emphasized the need for a shift in their approach towards engaging the public and combating misinformation spread by adversaries of the nation.

Ribadu urged the spokespersons to proactively and strategically manage national security communication, calling for a concerted effort to engage with Nigerians, build trust, and counter violent extremism.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of collaboration and coordination among these agencies to prevent criminal elements such as Boko Haram, IPOB, and other subversive groups from exploiting the media to threaten the safety and security of citizens.

Addressing the growing concern of misinformation and disinformation, Ribadu highlighted the misuse of media and social platforms to sow discord between the public and government institutions.

He raised alarm on the global and local threats posed by those who manipulate social media to influence public opinion against the interests of citizens, stressing the immediate need for proactive measures in national security communication management.

Looking ahead, Ribadu assured that government communication would align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision and directives, with messages being well-coordinated to uphold national security strategic objectives and values.
