According to Peter Obi, the INEC server failed due to ‘establishment of criminality’

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, expressed his views that the reason for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, servers not functioning during the previous presidential election was due to the ‘establishment of criminality.’

He emphasized that it is crucial for the server to eventually operate, as he mentioned that Amazon confirmed there were no global glitches on the day of the presidential election.

Delivering his statement in Canada on Friday, the former Anambra State governor addressed various issues regarding the previous general election, including IREV servers.

During his visit to Canada for a “thank you” tour to acknowledge Nigerians residing in the country for their support during the 2023 campaign and general elections, Obi highlighted the challenges faced in the electoral process.

Obi reflected on the outcomes of the last election and the obstacles faced in implementing change, noting that progress towards change is often met with resistance from those benefiting from the existing system. He encouraged perseverance in pursuing change, drawing parallels to other countries’ historical struggles for transformation.

He acknowledged that the path to change is fraught with challenges and complexities, but assured that necessary corrections are being made without specifying details.

Regarding the malfunctioning INEC server, Obi attributed its failure to the entrenched system that deliberately hindered its functionality. He reiterated the need to advocate for the server to be operational and pointed out that Amazon’s assessment validated the absence of glitches globally on the election day.
