A Message from Otti to Ikpeazu: Prepare to Repay Misappropriated Funds, Including Airport Project Costs

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged the prior administration under Okezie Ikpeazu to be prepared to reimburse misappropriated funds, such as the budget allocated for the airport project.

Otti, in response to the forensic audit report of the state’s finances, emphasized that his administration’s goal is not to engage in conflict but to recover embezzled funds, aiming for effective governance.

Speaking during a solidarity visit in Nvosi by supporters of the representative for Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, Rowland Chinwendu, the governor underlined his commitment to the advancement and prosperity of Abia State. He insisted that since the airport project was not actualized, the funds allocated to it should be repaid.

Expressing disappointment at being insulted in the media for revealing the findings of the forensic audit report, Otti labeled the visit from Chinwendu and his followers as auspicious.

“Immediately after my inauguration, I initiated a forensic audit of our financial accounts, which unveiled rampant embezzlement, including the N10 billion earmarked for the Abia Airport Project,” Otti remarked. “Despite facing backlash in the media, the truth of my statements is evident.”

“We are focused on reclaiming our finances. If the airport does not materialize, restitution of the funds will be necessary. Our aim is not to pursue individuals, but to recover stolen money for the benefit of our citizens,” he declared.

“Our priority is the development of our region. We are dedicated to furthering infrastructure, environmental cleanliness, and job creation.”

In his address, Chinwendu, the representative for Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, affirmed his responsibility to represent his constituents’ interests in the legislature.

He emphasized that he cannot be perceived as opposing the governor, given their shared local government origin, and expressed gratitude for the ongoing Umuikaa-Umuene road renovation and other constituency projects supported by the governor.
