Trump assures that the end of the war in Ukraine is "closer than ever"

More than four years later, the war in Ukraine is coming to an end. This has been confirmed by US President Donald Trump, after his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, has agreed to resume negotiations with US mediation.

After also obtaining Zelensky’s willingness to stop the war, the top US president has assured that the end of the armed conflict is “perhaps now closer than we have ever been.”

“I was talking to Vladimir Putin about how to resolve his war with Ukraine and I think we are getting closer to a solution,” Trump said this Wednesday during a roundtable held at the White House.

China joins the collaboration

In addition to the United States, China also has a special impact on the peace agreement. Trump has confirmed that the talks also involve China, recalling that President Xi Jinping visited the country a week ago.

“The fact is that both (Russia and China) would like to see the war resolved. So we are in the process of doing that with Russia, and we have China that is also involved,” the president said.

America’s “rush” to end the war

The disposition of all the agents suggests that an agreement could be reached sooner rather than later. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently pointed out the speed with which the United States wants to agree on a “trilateral” meeting between Russia, Ukraine and the United States to move towards peace.

The American emissary from the White House, Steve Witkoff, recently traveled to Russia to close a date, something that has been celebrated by the Ukrainian president, who agrees on the need to close a meeting “as soon as possible.”

“We have received a response that Russia, from what we have understood of the meeting, supports a trilateral meeting at the team level. The American side proposes to do this as soon as possible. We support it,” Zelensky said in statements to the Ukrainian agency Ukrinform.

No exact date for the meeting

Despite the intention of the American president, there is still no exact date to hold the discussions. “I don’t know what the final dates of the meeting will be,” said the Ukrainian head of state, pointing out that the work agenda is clear.

“The agenda is clear: stop the war, bring peace closer and prepare, as I see it, prepare everything for a meeting at the level of leaders,” Zelensky highlighted in reference to the meeting in which he would meet with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

The dialogue between the parties has been stalled since February due to the war in Iran, although for weeks the United States has been trying to take the initiative to relaunch talks between Ukraine and Russia.

Attacks between both countries continue

While the negotiations take place, Moscow and kyiv continue to exchange attacks. This morning, Russia fired 21 ballistic missiles in three waves of attacks against the capital and several regions of the country, causing damage to civilian buildings, fires and victims.

For its part, Ukraine has responded to the attacks by launching hundreds of drones against Russian territory. Zelensky accuses Moscow of hindering negotiating progress and calls for more real pressure on Putin.
