The Royal House of Norway updated this Thursday, August 27, the health status of King Harald V, 89 years old, the oldest monarch in Europe, through a statement.
Statement from the Royal House of Norway
After being hospitalized for ten days at the Oslo University Hospital due to anemia that has led to a blood infection, the Palace has indicated that “His Majesty the King’s health has deteriorated. His Majesty the King’s condition is very serious.”
Furthermore, in the statement they have also reported that the crown prince, Haakon, who currently serves as regent, and his mother, Queen Sonia, “cancel all their activity.” Norwegian media have indicated that numerous members of the Norwegian royal family have traveled to the hospital, including Queen Sonia, Haakon, Princess Mette-Marit and Harald’s sister, Princess Astrid, 94 years old.
Hospitalization of the monarch
Harald V was admitted on August 17 for fluid retention, after being treated with cortisone for the hemolytic anemia he suffers from. After this event, the Royal Family reported that the monarch’s health had worsened due to a blood infection. However, he noted that he had received antibiotic treatment, that he had reacted favorably and that he remained “stable.” However, this new update represents a change in the situation of the king of Norway.
Message from the Norwegian Prime Minister
The Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, has expressed that he is “deeply moved” by the information about the monarch’s state of health.
“I take the entire country with me to send our most sincere wishes to the king and the rest of the royal family. I trust that the king will receive excellent care and attentive treatment,” said the leader, who has canceled the trip he had planned to take to Germany to meet with the chancellor, Friedrich Merz.
