Mexican influencer César Gastelum is shot to death during a live broadcast

Mexican influencer César Gastelum, 25, was murdered on Tuesday afternoon after being shot in the head while broadcasting live on his social networks with two friends in Sinaloa. The content creator was outside a restaurant when he was shot by the assailants.

Specifically, Gastelum and his friends were near the KFC fast chain around 8:00 p.m. when a motorcycle approached and one of the occupants shot directly at Gastelum with a short gun.

The influencer, who has more than 500,000 followers on his networks, was doing a live performance dressed as a food deliveryman as part of a challenge with his two friends when the driver shot him in the head. After that, the broadcast stopped and was subsequently removed from the platform.

However, some users and news portals managed to capture the complete sequence in order to disseminate images of the attack.

Police investigate alleged perpetrators

After the event, the military and police, as well as forensic experts, traveled to the scene to collect any evidence and remove the body. According to the first reports from the police, the investigations revolve around a faction of a criminal group, as reported this Wednesday by the federal Security Cabinet.

However, the authorities are collecting all the recordings from the video surveillance cameras to identify those responsible.

A conflictive area

The case has once again shaken the country, since in the last two years the powerful local cartel has been noticed on the streets. The local press indicates that a dozen influencers, some of them allegedly related to criminal gangs, have been murdered in recent years in Sinaloa.

The chain of crimes does not seem to stop and this latest case is good proof of this. And César Gastelum is joined by other great figures such as Agustín Paul, El Pinky, Adal Peña, El Tata, Leonardo Aispuro Soto, El Gordo Perucci; Juan Carlos N, known as El Chilango, Camilo Ochoa, El Alucín, and Miguel Vivanco, El Jasper.

These names were murdered after hundreds of pamphlets were dropped in January 2025 from a small plane in Culiacán in which they were identified as part of a money laundering network for Los Chapitos.

The case occurs a day after authorities reported the arrest of the mastermind behind the murder of content creator Valeria Márquez, who was murdered in Zapopan, Jalisco, in May 2025, inside her business.
