A survivor of the earthquakes in Venezuela was rescued this Thursday morning, after having spent eight days under the rubble of a building located in the state of La Guaira, one of the most affected areas of the country.
The rescue operation has concluded with the rescue of Hernán Gil, a Venezuelan who has been buried under the rubble of a building for more than a week.
A spokesperson for the Costa Rican Red Cross assured EFE that “it is located in an underground passage in a security booth with 140 tons of debris on top. Today the strategy has been rethought and a new access is being sought.”
An ambulance and a medical team were waiting Tuesday afternoon in front of the half-ruined building where Gil is located and where he was a doorman, a position he inherited from his father, according to neighbors.
“The problem – to get him out – is for his safety, Hernán is in the basement, there is a lot of materials, it is a very sensitive operation for that reason,” one of the 64 Portuguese rescuers who are part of this complicated operation told EFE during the morning.
