The Israeli Army bombed the Nabatieh area in southern Lebanon this Saturday, a day after the signing of a framework agreement in Washington between Israel and Lebanon to achieve “lasting peace and security” between both countries, as detailed in the agreed document.
An Israeli Army spokeswoman confirmed the attack, and said the target was a suspected “terrorist” who she alleged posed a threat to soldiers in the Nabatieh area (where Israel maintains a military occupation).
Hezbollah leader accuses Lebanese government of treason
The general secretary of the Lebanese party-militia Hezbollah, Naim Qasem, has unequivocally condemned the signing of the framework agreement between the Government of Lebanon and Israel, which he declared invalid for all purposes before accusing the Lebanese authorities of having become traitors to the people and promising once again that the group will never lay down its arms through this initiative.
The final text of the framework agreement signed this past Friday by Lebanon and Israel in no way implies the Israeli withdrawal from the areas it has invaded in the south of the country, but rather a “gradual” exit always conditioned on the disarmament of the Hezbollah militias, effective only in two “pilot zones” that, according to official Israeli sources, are located beyond the original limits of what Israel calls the “buffer zone” that was established in April.
The agreement, published by the US State Department, speaks of a “reciprocal and gradual process” by which the Lebanese Army will “reestablish effective sovereignty” over its entire territory, however, “pending the verified disarmament” of Hezbollah, which has already rejected this agreement and warned for the umpteenth time that it will not begin a disarmament process based on these conversations between Beirut and Tel Aviv.
