12 Killed in Plateau Village as Protests Erupt

In the latest disturbing incident, twelve individuals have tragically lost their lives in an attack on the Tilengpat Pushit community situated in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State by unidentified gunmen.

The violent assault, resulting in the fatalities, took place late on Thursday, marking another sorrowful event following the recent killing of at least ten people in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages in the Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of the state.

As a result of the attacks, several individuals sustained injuries, and properties, including the villagers’ homes, were set on fire.

Markus Argue, the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, confirmed the tragic incident to NewsNow in Jos on Friday.

Expressing his dismay, he stated, “Yes, the heart-wrenching attack on our community occurred last night, leaving several innocent individuals dead. I am currently present in Pushit assessing the situation, and at this point, we are unable to provide an exact count of the casualties. The senseless targeting and killing of women and children in their own homes is beyond comprehension.”

An elder in Pushit identified as John revealed that twelve deceased bodies have been found at the scene of the attack and in the adjoining bushes.

John reported, “To date, we have found twelve lifeless bodies of individuals who fell victim to the appalling attack in the Pushit community. Their identities are yet to be disclosed, pending notification of their families. Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating this abhorrent crime to understand the motive and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Efforts to reach Alabo Alfred, the Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command for comments on the incident, were unsuccessful. However, sources at the Command’s headquarters in Jos indicated that security personnel have been dispatched to the affected region.

Simultaneously, in Bokkos Local Government Area, women have taken to the streets in protest against the escalating violent attacks conducted by gunmen in their communities.

As reports come in, it is said that protesting women from Bokkos town are en route to the Council headquarters to voice their grievances.
