Burning of Confiscated Styrofoam Packs in Lagos Markets [VIDEO]

On Thursday, officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources conducted operations to seize styrofoam food packs from markets in various local government areas of the state.

Sharing photos and a video on Friday, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed this development.

According to the post, “Enforcement teams from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources intensified efforts to remove banned styrofoam food packs from markets across the state.

“Yesterday, the environmental enforcement team conducted raids on shops in Ikorodu Local Government, Mosan Okunola Local Government, Badagry Local Government, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo Local Government, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, Eti-Osa Local Government, and other areas of the state.”

All confiscated items will be subjected to incineration, as Wahab confirmed, stating, “All seized items have been transported to Marini TLS in Bolade, Oshodi, for disposal.

“We urge all residents of Lagos to refrain from using, distributing, or selling the banned styrofoam packs in any part of the state.”

Reports from NewsNow mentioned that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, announced a ban on the utilization and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics within the state back in January.

In a similar development in February, the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, revealed that a total of 169kg of styrofoam containers were confiscated from various markets and taken to Marini TLS.
