World Bank pledges support for water, sanitation, and hygiene in Nigeria

Continuing its commitment, the World Bank has announced its ongoing support for the water, sanitation, and hygiene sector in Nigeria.

During a visit to the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof Joseph Utsev, in Abuja, the new Country Director of the World Bank, Dr Ndiame Diop, assured of this support.

Diop emphasized the importance of a strengthened partnership and continued collaboration with the ministry to enhance the success of water policies and programs in the country.

In response, the minister highlighted the need for increased funding to bolster food security nationwide.

Utsev underscored the significance of allocating resources to food security, citing its potential to generate more job opportunities and reduce criminal activities among citizens.

He also emphasized the vital role of establishing a strong partnership between the World Bank and the ministry to effectively work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on implementing the Sustainable Power and Irrigation Project for Nigeria (SPIN).

Furthermore, he commended the outgoing country director of the World Bank, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, for his exceptional service, wished him success in his future ventures, and extended his support to the incoming director, Mr. Diop, for a successful tenure.
