William Troost-Ekong Sets Sights on 2026 World Cup with Super Eagles

In an interview, Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong revealed his dream of competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite missing out on the last World Cup in Qatar, the three-time African champions are determined to qualify for the upcoming tournament.

Currently, the West Africans have yet to secure a victory in their initial two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Troost-Ekong expressed his optimism about representing Nigeria in the next World Cup, emphasizing his motivation to achieve this goal despite the team’s slow start.

Speaking with Segun Odegbami on Eagle FM, the center-back stated, “I will be participating in the 2025 AFCON, but my primary focus is on the 2026 World Cup. I believe I am entering the peak of my career. Physically, I feel strong and am recovering well. My ambition is to make history and be among the great players who have won a trophy.”

He continued, “To fulfill this ambition, I understand the importance of performing well at the club level to earn my spot. We have an opportunity next year in Morocco to showcase our abilities, and I am confident we will surpass our performance in Cote d’Ivoire.”

In the upcoming matches, the Super Eagles are set to face South Africa and Benin as they strive to secure their position in the qualifiers.
