A Nigerian Man Criticizes NCDC for Delayed Response to Third Case of Coronavirus in Nigeria
A Nigerian man has called out the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for delaying response after his friend became the third person to test positive for coronavirus in Nigeria. He mentioned that the NCDC had claimed that his friend was receiving medical care, but there was no update on her situation.
Recall that the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, had mentioned that the third case of coronavirus in the country is a Nigerian lady who recently returned to Lagos from the UK.
@dondekojo, the man’s Twitter handle, expressed his frustration, stating that the NCDC had been unresponsive to testing his friend who returned from the UK on March 13. He added that the agency had initially downplayed the risk from the UK and only promised a test after persistent requests.
He further tweeted his concerns regarding the handling of the situation, stressing the lack of attention and treatment for his friend. He also urged people to stay away from public places, wash their hands, and self-isolate, emphasizing the inadequate testing kits and isolation facilities in Nigeria.
The Nigerian man, who had previously criticized the absence of coronavirus testing in Nigeria, also criticized Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Abayomi, for allegedly lying about his friend receiving medical care.
He also called out the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, for supposedly misrepresenting the response from the Lagos State Emergency Operations Centre.
The man’s tweet has brought attention to the perceived delays and challenges in responding to COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
