Warning from Lagos State Police to Vandals

Concerning the act of vandalizing public property, the Lagos State Government cautions that it constitutes economic sabotage.

Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, expressed condemnation towards the vandals who have caused destruction to government property, particularly at motor parks and pedestrian bridges within the state.

In an interview with Saturday Punch, Omotosho highlighted the adverse effects of such criminal activities on communities. He urged residents to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement agencies, emphasizing that public property serves as infrastructure constructed for the well-being and prosperity of the residents.

He emphasized that vandalizing public property contradicts the true spirit of a Lagosian. It is incumbent upon everyone to ensure that such criminal activities are halted by reporting, apprehending, and prosecuting suspects.

He stated, “It’s evident that vandalizing government property amounts to economic sabotage, carrying significant legal consequences. Those caught in such acts will face legal recourse. It is essential for individuals to take ownership of government initiatives, as you are less likely to allow vandalism if you perceive it as your own.”

“Any individual engaging in such activities is an adversary of society and unworthy of being called a Lagosian. Genuine Lagosians understand the value of not vandalizing government property – advocacy efforts are continuous.”

“Whenever the government initiates a project, it emphasizes that it is for the people, their communities, and neighborhoods, urging the public to safeguard and take ownership of these projects. Regrettably, there are still elements in society intending to vandalize government property. It is the collective responsibility to end such misconduct by capturing, reporting, and bringing these individuals to justice.”

Additionally, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, informed NewsNow that the command has made a number of arrests and will continue to search for more offenders.

He issued a warning, stating that the command will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any individuals found guilty of criminal acts.
