Visit by Obi to the Family of the Kidnapped Anambra Governorship Candidate

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, paid a visit to the family of Obiora Agbasimalo, the kidnapped LP governorship candidate for Anambra State.

The visit was disclosed by Eucharia Agbasimalo, the wife of the kidnapped victim, in an interview with NewsNow on Friday.

During the visit at their residence in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, Obi expressed his condolences to the family for the passing of her father-in-law, Pa Emmanuel Agbasimalo, who passed away on May 20, 2024.

The LP governorship candidate was abducted at Azia community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State while on his way to attend a political event in September 2021, and his whereabouts have remained unknown since then.

Mrs. Agbasimalo mentioned that Obi’s visit to her husband’s family was to offer condolences for their missing son and the recent loss of his father.

She characterized Obi’s visit as a gesture of love, arriving at a time when the family was still searching for their son and mourning the demise of their elder.

She stated, “The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023 paid a visit to the family of Obiora Agbasimalo, the LP governorship candidate in Anambra in 2021.

“During the visit, Mr. Obi was informed about the recent passing of the victim’s father, Emmanuel Agbasimalo, and extended his sympathies to the family.

“The visit, which occurred at a time when the national and state leadership of the Labour Party had neglected the party’s governorship candidate, who is still held by kidnappers, was warmly received by the family.

“Emmanuel Agbasimalo passed away while hoping and anticipating the return of his son, who has been missing since September 2021 with an unknown whereabouts. Obi reassured the family that he would utilize his influence to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.”
