Veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor passes away at 61, leaving fans in mourning

The news of the death of veteran Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor, aged 61, has left fans grieving. He succumbed on Sunday, eliciting an outpouring of condolences from his admirers.

Muonagor was well-known for his comedic roles on screen and had been battling kidney disease before his demise.

Efforts to reach Emeka Rollas, the Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, for remarks on Muonagor’s passing were unsuccessful as calls and messages to him went unanswered on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, social commentator Morris Monye, using his handle @Morris_Monye, expressed his sadness over the actor’s death and highlighted the community’s previous efforts to support Muonagor during his health struggles.

Muonagor had been undergoing dialysis due to kidney failure.

The news of his passing followed a recent viral video where he appealed for financial aid to facilitate a kidney transplant.

Monye remarked, “The news of Amaechi Muonagor’s demise deeply saddens me. He was a gifted Nollywood actor whose on-screen performances were truly captivating.

“We followed his health struggles closely, extending support towards his treatment in India. This tragic loss underscores the urgent requirement for improved healthcare in our nation.”

In the aforementioned social media video, the Nollywood comic icon was visibly unwell, seeking financial assistance from the public, lying in bed with a chest bandage and struggling to speak.

A fellow actor, seated beside him, explained the urgent need for funds for Muonagor’s kidney transplant.

His demise comes at a time when the nation is still mourning the recent passing of Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.

An individual with the handle @Oluomoofderby mourned his death, stating, “May he rest in peace. The healthcare systems in Western and Asian countries frequented by Nigerian leaders are established with continuous maintenance, political commitment, and visionary leadership, attributes evidently lacking in Nigeria. Whether accepted or not, the poor healthcare system in our country will impact all of us. We must unite to demand a better healthcare system in Nigeria.”

Another user, @alesolas, commented, “May his soul rest in perfect peace. Apart from the name Nigeria, nothing seems to be functioning in the country.”

@mister_ade5 expressed, “We have lost a Nollywood Legend. RIP Legend Amaechi Muonagor.”

“First Mr Ibu, now Amaechi Muonagor. We have lost both in less than a month,” posted @Oladapomikky1.

Born on August 20, 1962, Muonagor hailed from Idemili, Anambra.
