Update: Discharge of Five More COVID-19 Patients in Lagos, including a 10-year-old Girl

The discharge of five additional Coronavirus patients, including a 10-year-old girl, from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Lagos has been announced by the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In an evening post on his IG page, the governor shared this uplifting news with the public.

”Greetings, my dear Lagosians.
Yesterday, I announced the discharge of one more patient at our Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.

Today, I am pleased to inform you that five more patients, comprising two males and three females, including a 10-year-old girl, have tested negative twice consecutively for COVID-19 and have been discharged to reunite with their families. This brings the total number of fully recovered and discharged patients from our facility at Yaba to 29.” he wrote

Expressing sorrow at the loss of a 36-year-old man who died of Coronavirus in a private facility in the state on Saturday April 4th, the governor called on Lagosians not to stigmatize those who have been discharged from the hospital.

”However, it is with sadness that the State has recorded another death, bringing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Lagos State to two. I need to reiterate that the result of tests conducted by our health workers on the recovered patients confirms that they pose no threat to the community. I would like to use this opportunity to advise Lagosians against stigmatizing the discharged patients, as this act could bring feelings of shame, hopelessness, and despair. We need to do all we can to support them in whatever form to get over the memories as soon as possible.

I wish to thank our frontline health workers who are taking good care of the patients, members of the Lagos State Health family, and the Emergency Operation Centre for their kindness and flexibility in managing the patients and checking the spread of the disease.” the statement read

The governor urged residents of the state to continue practicing social distancing and taking all precautionary measures as the state continues its battle against the ravaging viral disease.

”In order to contain the spread of the disease, I strongly advise you to continue observing Social Distancing, and all the instructions on prevention and transmission.
Let us remain indoors and shun the temptation to breach the presidential restriction that has been placed on our state so that the gains recorded so far are not eroded.
It has come to our notice that some of our youths still engage in sporting, socializing, and other related activities; this is very unfortunate. This act could jeopardize our efforts and the laudable intention of the lockdown. I therefore advise you to adhere strictly to our instructions so that together we can win the battle.” the statement read
