Umuahia Wraps Up South East Basketball Tournament with Imo Leading the Table

As the curtain falls on the South East Basketball tournament in Umuahia, Imo State’s basketball team continues to dominate the standings.

Their final match saw them narrowly surpassing Abia Stars of Abia State with a scoreline of 43-42.

In a previous match, Imo also emerged victorious against the Anambra team with a commanding 48-36 victory.

Conversely, Abia Stars kicked off the tournament impressively by outplaying Anambra 50-26 in their opening game.

Reflecting on the tournament’s conclusion, Coach Victor Ogugua, in charge of the Imo State Basketball squad, highlighted the significance of blending education with sports among youngsters to pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. He pledged to nurture the athletes towards a successful basketball career.

Coach Ogugua expressed his contentment with his team’s performance throughout the South East basketball contest and affirmed their commitment to analyzing and enhancing their game for the upcoming stages of the championship.

Furthermore, Coach Oriakhi Osagbovo, the head coach of Abia Stars Basketball, commended Governor Alex Otti, along with the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Nwaobilor Ananaba, and the Abia State Director of Sports, Mr. Obioma George, for their efforts in advocating basketball within the region. Osagbovo expressed the team’s determination to forge a strong unit capable of bringing honor to Abia and Nigeria, particularly with the contemporary basketball equipment procured by Governor Otti.
