Ukraine rejects Trump's proposal to provide help in exchange for giving half of their rare earths

The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, would have rejected, according to sources of ‘Financial Times’ Donald Trump’s proposal to offer help in exchange for exploiting half of mineral resources of rare earths of the country. The proposal was transferred by the United States Treasury Secretary Scott Besent.

During his visit to the Face -to -face office of Zelenski in kyiv, Besent transferred the offer of the US president to the Ukrainian leader. An offer that does not finish convincing Zelenski, since the president of Ukraine wants that in that negotiation of exploitation of mineral resources, guarantee the security of Ukraine. “We continue talking,” Zelenski slipped during his speech at the 61st Munich Security Conference.

Trump expected Zelenski to accept the proposal

According to several American media, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, hoped that Zelenski signed the proposal to exploit half of the Ukrainian mineral resources. Scott Bressent defended the document as a positive agreement to link both economies. However, Zelenski’s position is that Any negotiation that involves exploiting part of Ukrainian resources has to guarantee the security of Ukraine,Something that Trump’s current proposal would not do.

Ukraine, a mine for technological components

Some of the minerals that can be found under the Ukrainian soil are titanium, lithium and graphiteamong others. These materials are necessary for the manufacture of components for electronic devices as batteries or microchips, hence its strong strategic interest.

However, part of the mineral reserves containing these materials are close to the this Ukrainian front, so they could fall into Russian hands.
