Two Suspected ‘One-Chance’ Robbers Apprehended by Police in Ogun State

In Ogun State, the police have detained two individuals believed to be part of a group of ‘one-chance’ robbers operating in the Ewekoro Local Government Area.

These criminals, known as one-chance robbers, use a vehicle to deceive victims by posing as passengers or drivers, then proceed to rob them forcefully.

The suspects, Aliu Oyetola, 35 years old, and Seyi Afolabi, 40 years old, reportedly belong to a gang of four ‘one-chance’ robbers causing fear among residents of Sango Ota and nearby areas.

Oyetola and Afolabi were apprehended by officers from Sango Ota during a routine patrol near Itori, the headquarters of Ewekoro, on Thursday.

The police had been tracking the gang following a victim’s report on March 23, 2024, detailing how she was robbed by the suspects of over N320,000 during a ride.

SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state police command, revealed in a statement on Friday, “The victim boarded a Toyota Corolla taxi at Ijako market, heading to Itori, accompanied by four men pretending to be fellow passengers in the taxi.

“During the journey, the men robbed her of her possessions, including a smartphone worth N85,000, N123,000 in cash, and an additional N105,000, before pushing her out of the vehicle and fleeing.”

“Acting on the report, the DPO Sango Ota Division instructed his surveillance team to be vigilant and identify the culprits of the crime.”

Further elaborating, she mentioned that on March 28, 2024, while the police were on surveillance along Itori road, a Toyota Corolla frequently used by the gang approached. Suddenly, the vehicle stopped and the occupants dispersed.

However, the officers pursued them and successfully captured Oyetola and Afolabi, while recovering a blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GGE 659 FR.

The duo reportedly provided valuable information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing gang members.
