Two Chinese nationals arrested for alleged illegal mining in Ilorin

Two Chinese nationals, Yang Chao, 39, and Xiao Jiang, 38, along with Chidi Joseph Osuji, 48, suspected of involvement in illegal mining activities, were apprehended by operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The arrests were made following surveillance of their mining sites in Ogunmakin and Ogere, Ogun State. Chao and Chidi are employed with Cruis Chemical Nigeria Limited, while Jiang works at John Odiba Multibiz. They are accused of illegally mining minerals and transporting them out of the country for personal gain.

Furthermore, investigations linked the suspects to the ownership of solid minerals seized by EFCC operatives in various locations in Kwara and Oyo states earlier this month. The suspects were allegedly engaged in mining activities without proper licenses.

In a separate operation, EFCC also apprehended Sallah Asmau Wuraola, Owoduni Abdullahi Isa (a.k.a Bolaji), and Shuaibu Rukayat for selling new naira notes without authorization. The suspects were caught with significant amounts of new currency and will soon face legal action, as per the EFCC spokesman.
