TUC: Negotiable proposal for N615,000 minimum wage

A statement from the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) indicates that the suggested minimum wage of N615,000 is open to negotiation with the government.

In an interview on Arise Television, TUC President Festus Osifo shared this perspective, as reported by NewsNow.

Osifo emphasized the union’s willingness to engage in discussions and negotiations with the government.

He highlighted the nature of negotiations, stating, “The amount we proposed is based on thorough analysis and is what we believe constitutes a living wage. However, we are open to dialogue and expect a counteroffer from the government. Negotiations involve give-and-take.”

Addressing the challenges faced by some Nigerian states in meeting the current minimum wage, Osifo remarked, “Despite assurances from state governors, many states are still grappling with payment issues.”

He expressed skepticism about the actualization of promises made by government officials, saying, “While grand announcements are made on occasions like Workers’ Day, the implementation of these promises is often lacking. It seems more like empty rhetoric.”
