Trump remembers Spain again: "They have not fulfilled, but they will"

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has re -directed his gaze to Spain, this time directly and without anyone asking. During a press conference held this Friday, and while talking about the results of its economic and commercial policy, Trump brought up the behavior of Spain within the framework of NATO, reproaching the Government of Pedro Sánchez its resistance to increasing the expense in defense at the level committed by the allies.

“I just left, as they know, of a group of the most respected people and that includes large countries. You think in Germany, France, Spain … Although, well, Spain did not comply, but it will. I guarantee you will “Trump said. “It was the only country that tried to resist putting the money,” he said in reference to the agreement sealed by the 32 member countries of the Atlantic Alliance to reach 5% of GDP in military investment.

Unlike previous occasions, in which Trump limited himself to answering direct questions about Spain, this time the country was mentioned by the president’s own initiative, in the midst of an intervention focused on tariffs, industrial reopening and fierce criticism of his predecessor, Joe Biden. “It is entering a lot of money as never before, factories, car plants are being built …” Trump said, ensuring that the world respects the United States again.

Within that exaltation of its international leadership, The president introduced the name of Spain, stressing that the country “tried to contain himself so as not to contribute the money” which requires NATO, but warned: “It will.”
