Trump is left without allies: without Orbán, without Meloni and without Vox?

Donald Trump faces a moment of growing rejection among his international allies. In just a few days, the former US president has seen how some of the key support he had woven in Europe has suffered or disappeared: the electoral defeat of Viktor Orbán in Hungary, the head-on clash with Giorgia Meloni in Italy and the first public criticism from Vox in Spain.

The most obvious blow has come from Hungary. Orbán, considered one of the main leaders of Trumpism in Europe, has lost power after 16 years at the head of the country. Trump has reacted by distancing himself: “It was not my choice, but he was my friend,” he said, in an attempt to disassociate himself from the result despite the explicit support that his entourage had shown during the campaign.

Meloni does not pass his criticism to the Pope

Even more significant is the break with the Italian prime minister. Trump has openly acknowledged that his relationship with Giorgia Meloni is no longer the same following her refusal to support the US offensive against Iran. “I thought he was brave, but I was wrong,” and he accused him of not getting involved either in NATO or in the strategy against Tehran.

The disagreement has worsened after Meloni came out in defense of Pope Leo XIV against the attacks of the American president. Since then, the tone has escalated to a point that seems irreconcilable.

Vox is also beginning to mark distances. The party’s spokesperson in Congress, Pepa Rodríguez de Millán, has described Trump’s criticism of both Meloni and the Pope as “not very understandable”, in a move unprecedented until now in Santiago Abascal’s formation.

In fact, Vox has claimed the figure of the Italian president as “one of the bravest politicians in the world” and has underlined its closeness to her.

The distancing also comes at a delicate moment for Vox itself, after the discreet electoral result in Castilla y León and with prospects of stagnation in future elections such as Andalusia.
