Trump emphasizes that he will not sign an agreement with Iran that is not "big and significant"

After the news that came from the United States last night, in which it was stated that Iran and the Trump Government had reached an agreement in principle to open the Strait of Hormuz, this Monday the information is not so encouraging.

The Iranian regime affirms that the signing of the agreement is not imminent despite the progress in peace negotiations due to what it considered “frequent changes” in the positions of US officials.

“It is true that we have reached conclusions on many issues under discussion, but that does not mean that the signing of an agreement is imminent,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagaei at a press conference.

Bagaei also reiterated that the negotiations at this time are focused on the end of the war and not on the Iranian nuclear program, an issue that will be left for later.

For his part, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has stressed in a message on the Truth social network that he will not sign an agreement with Iran that is not “large and significant” and has stressed that “it will be exactly the opposite” of the historic nuclear pact signed with Tehran in 2015, which Washington unilaterally abandoned in 2018 during his first term.

The Iran deal will be a big or significant one, or there will be no deal.

“The agreement with Iran will be a large or significant one, or there will be no agreement. It will be exactly the opposite of the disaster that was the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – the official name of the 2015 agreement – negotiated by the failed Obama administration, which represented a direct and open path for Iran towards nuclear weapons. No, I do not reach agreements like that,” he stated in a message on social networks.

Thus, he has attacked the Democrats who are criticizing the possible pact and who “know nothing about the potential agreement” that is being negotiated with Iran, “things that have not even been negotiated yet.” Trump has stated that the Democratic Party “has lost its way” and “constantly criticizes each of the fantastic victories” achieved by the occupant of the White House.

Trump himself assured on Sunday that talks with Iran continue to progress adequately with a view to the possible signing of a “principled” agreement, although he warned that in no case will he sign an agreement at full speed because “both parties must take their time and do things right.”
