The president of the United States, Donald Trump, assured this Thursday that he will have to talk to Spain to increase the military budget, after emphasizing that it is the only NATO country that has not committed to spending more on Defense.
In a speech before the World Economic Forum in Davos to present the Gaza Peace Board, Trump reviewed the international achievements in the first year of his second term, including the agreement at the Hague summit by which the allies committed to devoting 5% to military spending.
Mention for Spain for Defense spending
“I got commitments from practically all NATO allies to increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP. All except Spain. I don’t know what is happening with Spain,” he said.
Trump has questioned the position of Pedro Sánchez’s government, suggesting that he wants to “take advantage.” “I don’t know why. We are going to have to talk to Spain,” he indicated, in reference to Spain’s position.
Trump also announced in Davos that his country will have talks with Iran. “Iran wants to talk and we will talk,” the president said. Furthermore, the US president declared that there are good relations with the new Government of Venezuela.
