Trump announces 25 % tariffs for cars manufactured outside the United States

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Wednesday that as of April 2 a 25% tariff will be applied for all cars that are exported to their country, a new and aggressive measure that recounts the commercial war initiated by its administration.

“We will effectively charge a 25% tariff (cars),” Trump said in the White House shortly before signing the executive order for the tariff measure, which according to him will not affect the auto parts made in the United States.

Trump explained that it expects that the measure, which will also affect light trucks, can report to US coffers an amount between 600,000 million and billion dollars in the next two years.

“It will take effect on April 2, and we will start raising on April 3,” the US president added, who wanted to influence that “if your vehicle manufactures in the United States, there are no tariffs.”

The New York tycoon insisted that this tariff game will attract manufacturers of foreign vehicles to lift plants on US soil to avoid taxes and set the plans of the Japanese manufacturer Honda as an example, which this month announced that it would manufacture a new model in its Indiana plant, instead of in Mexico.

Trump also recalled that on April 2, a date he has baptized as “Liberation Day”, it is planned to announce a battery of reciprocal tariffs for countries that have activated customs taxes on US goods and services.

Since he returned to the White House on January 20, Trump has opted to aggressively implement import tariffs from various US partners and correct what he considers unfair commercial deficits for Washington, both to attract investment of foreign corporate capital and pressure measure to reduce migratory or fentanyl flow.
